Prelude Variations and Ruminations on St James Infirmary

Solo guitar, eight movement composition commissioned by Berklee College of Music for classical guitarist, Kim Perlak.

This takes the traditional theme, St. James Infirmary that is closely associated with New Orleans and uses it as a vehicle for a virtuosic solo that draws from classical repertoire (Sor, Ponce, Britten) and jazz, blues and Brazilian harmonies and genres.

The piece in its entirety is 20 minutes long but can be played as individual pieces or groups of pieces in any order giving it a multitude of options for the concert performer. In addition, some of the movements are manageable for the intermediate and student guitarist.
